World Cup Champéry - Vastaranta and Pietersma strong

Jukka Vastaranta in action Champéry

Champéry, 25th of July 2010 - Two days of rainfall in Champéry transformed an already technical course in an extremely challenging one. Four riders started for the Trek-Brentjens team; Kaufmann, Luttenberg, Pietersma and newcomer Jukka Vastaranta. Kaufmann was the first to drop out; after dropping his chain at the start, Kaufmann dropped to a sub 100 position and quit the race. Irjan Luttenberg struggled with the course, and a hard crash forced him to drop out in a later stage. Jelmer Pietersma started fast, but made a few mistakes in the third lap, which forced him to stop to straighten his bars. Pietersma continued to fight though, and fought his way back to 36th position. Jukka Vastaranta proved to be a welcome addition to the team. In his first World Cup race ever, Vastarante made his way to 46th position, after starting on 110th. We're off to Val di Sole!
