'The morning after' in Rio 2016! Mixed feelings!

Looking back in Rio to a great Olympic weekend with unfortunately a bad crash of Rudi van Houts that took him out of the race.
A Top 10 position for Yana Belomoina despite her crash and a great 17th place for debutante Grant Ferguson Athlete.

Bart Brentjens:
"Overall we can look back to a good weekend! Yana riding for a 7th position and finishing 9th because of her crash in the last lap. Still Top 10!
Grant riding a good first Olympic race and finishing Top 20 in this field of riders! We had bad luck with the crash of Rudi van Houts. It is sad the crash, forced Rudi to leave this Olympic race. His whole year was dedicated and focused on Rio, it is a big disappointment but a fact.
Rio 2016 gave us a fantastic Olympic mountainbike event! The atmosphere at the Olympic mountainbike race was just fantastic!
So many spectators from Brazil and all over the World that love our sport, it made me feel happy and proud!
Looking forward for the next Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 already!"

Rudi van Houts 16th at the World Championships in Nove Mesto Czech!

Today it was the final day of a great organized World Championship in Nove Mesto, Czech. The Elite Men and WomenU23 were on the program.

Risvedds (Sweden), having an extremely strong season, managed to became the 2016 World Champion WomenU23. Our U23 Woman, Margot Moschetti was not riding because she is recovering from the Epstein Barr Virus.

At the Men's Elite race today Nino Schurter became the new World Champion 2016. It was a really fast race, full speed and high level. More than 100 riders started this afternoon in an extremely crowded 'Vysocina Arena'.

Concerning our riders we had Rudi van Houts and Hans Becking riding for the Netherlands, Grant Ferguson for the United Kingdom and Jiri Novak was riding a home game in Czech.

Rudi van Houts was riding a really strong race and finished 16th! A good come back after his crash some weeks ago! Jiri Novak was riding strong and motivated in his home country and finished on a decent 44 place. Hans Becking was riding a solid and finished 58th.

Grant Ferguson had a good start but got some breath problems after the second lap. Grant dropped to the back of the field and was pulled out at the lap 5 because of the 80% rule.

In the MenU23 race yesterday Sebastian Fini Carstensen from Denmark became 24th. Winner of the MenU23 Samuel Gaze from New Zealand.

Yana Belomoina (Ukrain), winner of Bronze at the 2015 World Championships, had physical problems directly after the start with and had to quit the race. Yana was very dissapointed, she really looked forward to this World Champion after last year's experience in Andorra winning the Bronze.

Annika Langvad (Denmark),riding a really good season, won the Gold in Nove Mesto with lots of power. She was from the beginning of the race leading and in front position. The Women Elite race had an really exciting finish. Leah Davidson (USA) became 2nd and Batty (Canada) won Bronze.

Margot Moschetti temporary out of competition because of Epstein Barr virus

Our French rider Margot Moschetti (Women U23) will not be in competition this coming period because she is diagnosed with the Epstein Barr Virus infection. Margot was feeling really tired for a long period and did not recover. After several medical checks and researches the Epstein Barr virus has been found. It is not clear when Margot is ready to start competition again.

Margot Moschetti:

“I was feeling tired for a long period and my training and races did not go well. I was sure something was not good in my body, but I did not know what was wrong. It is in the middle of an Olympic season and I was really eager to race and to train, but it was just not possible for me to give it all. So I am relieved now that the doctors found and diagnosed what is wrong. I hope I recover fast from the Epstein Barr virus and to be back racing soon!”

Teammanager Bart Brentjens:

“We are sorry for Margot missing a big part of this Olympic Season. It is always hard to be out of competition because of an injury or illness. It is good that we have clear diagnosis now so Margot can work on her recovery”.

Mixed feelings about World Cup Round#3 in La Bresse, France!

Last weekend's Round3 of the 2016 UCI World Cup was memorable because of the great atmosphere in La Bresse, France and ofcourse the great, exciting races in all categories! For our Team we can say we had some mixed feelings.

We had Sebastian Fini Carstensen riding in a fast but very muddy U23 Men's race. Sebastian was hoping for some rain, the whole week before the race and he got some! Heavy weather conditions during the night before the races changed the conditions and changes. Sebastian was riding a strong race and could finish 6th just behind the other strong Danish rider Simon Andreassen (Specialized Racing) with only 10 seconds difference. Winner became the French Titouan Carod (Scott Creuse Oxygene Gueret) with 2min05sec difference to number two Romain Seigle, also from France (Focus). We are very happy with Fini's th place. He is a young, strong talented guy with a good mindset, promosing.

Sebastian directly after the race to his teammanager Bart Brentjens: "I think I had the best tires'. That is a big compliment to CST Tires!

Yana Belomoina (Ukrain-Women Elite) became 13th in a really fast exciting battle! She could fight herself back to the Top 15. She became stronger every other lap. Winner of the Women Elite category became Jolanda Neff (Suisse - Stockli Pro Team). She was definitly the strongest. Catharine Pendrel from Canada became strong second and Emily Batty also from Canada finished 3rd. Yana: 'I am still not satisfied with my result in this World Cup, I know and feel I can finish Top 10 so I will work on that'. Teammanager Bart Brentjens was happy with Yana's result. "Yana is getting stronger every day. She had a good race, those World Cup's are not the easiest!"

Rudi van Houts (Netherlands), Grant Ferguson (UK) and Hans Becking (Netherlands) we riding the Elite Men's category which was strongly won by the French Julien Absolan.

Hans Becking (Netherlands) was not feeling wel before the race but decided to start. Hans had to quit in the beginning of the race. Hans: " At this moment it feels like a struggle. Not the feeling that you want to have."

Grant Ferguson (UK) had a good start and a solid race in the first 3 laps. Always in the front. He came to short to keep it going and dropped more to the back. In the last lap he had a bad crash and could not finish the race. Grant needs time for recovery because of his injury.

Rudi van Houts (Netherlands) was riding his first UCI World Cup of this year. After his crash of 2 weeks ago, it was extra exciting to see where Rudi is standing. Rudi was riding a solid strong race but had the feeling he could not gave everything. Rudi:"I expected more of it, escpecially because I had a good feeling the last two days before the race". Bart:"We were happy having Rudi riding here in La Bresse after his bad injury. On Tuesday morning we were still not sure if he could start here. Rudi did not bad after such a heavy crash. He needs to have some confidence and patience. His time will come."

Cape Epic is a fact! After a good start of the season in the Costa Blanca Bike Race (Spain) and the Sunshine Cup in Cyprus, a part of our Team left to South Africa to ride the 'famous' Absa Cape Epic. Welcome to our new 2016 sponsor Sandd!

All good things come to an end!

After 2 years of great partnership with BETCH.nl as one of our ‘name and main’ sponsors, we want to thank BETCH.nl for all the great opportunities the sponsorship and collaborations BETCH.nl gave us! We wish the company the best for the future!

Every end is a new beginning!

As every end is a new beginning we are happy and proud to welcome Sandd as our new sponsor of the Team #Destination Rio2016.

Bart Brentjens, Teammanager & World’s 1st Olympic Champion XCO 1996:

“Ronald van de Laar was ‘name and main sponsor’ of our Team with the company BETCH.nl for 2 great years. Because of this sponsorship we could make a big step forwards with the Team. Ronald is a very visionary businessman and believes in great possibilities working with the Team together in the Olympic year 2016 with the company Sandd.

Because of this collaboration, we will have the chance to realize our ambitions and to keep on growing in maturity. Sandd is a perfect sponsor for us, with a great philosophy. It fits well!

The nice thing is, looking to our riders and the Sandd postmen, there are an extremely bunch of crossing points and similarities! This fact will motivate and inspirate a lot in both directions. For sure we will use those motivational aspects in the Team, as in the Sandd company”.

Ronald van de Laar, CEO Sandd:

“I am really happy to stay connected to Team Brentjens in 2016 and to support Bart and the Team with further grow and the next steps to take. In this Olympic year, we will continue the collaboration with the Team. This year it is exactly 20 years ago Bart was writing history and winning the first Olympic Golden Mountainbike Medal ever in Atlanta USA. And now Bart will join with his athletes at the Olympic Games in Rio. Sandd is proud to support the Team and Bart on their #Destination Rio 2016.

We see lots of possibilities with this sponsorship. An important one is that sport, in this case the sport of mountainbike, became an important part of our culture and more and more you see and recognize the importancy of sport in business. Being active and being healthy is important, outdoor sport is a great way to work on it and to stay healthy, focused and motivated. Part of the sponsorship will also be the development of a safety program for our thousands of employees who deliver post by bike.

Our business relations and our employees are really motivated and enthusiastic to learn more about mountainbiking and cycling from Bart and his team. It is great to see how Bart and his Team are going in the right direction and growing to one of the best UCI Mountainbike Teams of the World. It is motivating and inspiring. Especially if it is about all the steps you have to take towards the Olympics!

We love to support Bart and his team #DirectionRio2016 !”
